BGCULTURE-3.001-0045

Implementation period 16.02.2023 - 16.04.2024

Programme PA14 "Cultural Entrepreneurship, Heritage and Cooperation" of the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2014-2021.

The project "4 Better Arts - Writing, Drawing, Dancing and Theatre" is aimed at promoting Roma culture and art among the general public at national level, creating artistic and creative products from the minority and disseminating them among representatives of the target groups, the majority and all stakeholders.

THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT IS: Promoting Roma culture, expanding and attracting new audiences to their initiatives and engaging the majority and minorities by building new creative spaces for intercultural dialogue, self-expression and sharing.

To achieve this main objective, the team will work towards several specific SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

  • reaching new audiences and revitalising remote areas and small settlements through the dissemination of Roma creativity and art
  • promoting participation and cohesion of the majority and ethnic minority by providing creative opportunities for self-expression, sharing and intercultural dialogue
  • preserving Roma culture and art.

MAIN ACTIVITIES:

  • Project Management
  • Training of expert staff
  • Travelling show "Tales without end"
  • Shokarity studio
  • National Creative Writing Competition
  • Educational event focusing on minority culture
  • Publicity

Cultural events, artistic and stage performances of children from minority groups in peripheral areas are planned. The creative products created will be promoted and visualised in the minority community, but at the same time, in order to overcome isolation, the general public in remote small settlements will be reached. The colourful, high artistic value and positive charge of the planned events will awaken the periphery and provoke new audiences to art and cultural life in the country.

A complex of creative performances by children of Roma origin are planned. In the form of a tour, a combined children's performance will be presented with the participation of a dance, theatre and music troupe. The events will be accompanied by a travelling exhibition of works by Roma children from the Shokarite Atelier. A National Literary Competition for children and young people of Roma origin will be organised, and a Book-Collection of the works will be published as a result. The project also foresees a practical seminar to exchange experiences and good practices on ways to attract new audiences.
EXPECTED RESULTS:
- Creation of creative products of representatives of the Roma ethnic group - drawings, travelling performance, travelling exhibition, Book-collection of original Roma works.
- revitalizing the periphery and remote small settlements through creative performances and exhibitions
- attracting new audiences to the culture and art of Roma ethnicity

The emphasis of the project is based on the four arts: writing, drawing, dance and theatre. The combination of the different creative activities adds to the skill palette of the target groups, increases their confidence and self-esteem, providing them with a variety of opportunities for self-expression and sharing. The project will empower Roma children to paint in all shades of the spectrum and create a diverse cultural heritage in the future. The team aims to reach out to remote areas to ensure sustainable transformation, which is not seen as a distant goal but as a long-term process and an ongoing way of working. The planned training and skills development of all involved in the implementation process creates inclusive societies and helps to make the transition from a multicultural to an intercultural society.

The project is implemented by the Association "For a Better Future" in partnership with the Association "Resource Centre for European Cooperation".
